Director Spike Jonze (Being John Malkovich) tackles the issue of intimacy in the digital age, starring Joaquin Phoenix as Theodore Twombly, a newly-divorced man living in LA in the not-too-distant future.

Anxious and borderline anti-social, he finds himself falling in love with his computer operating system, the artificially-intelligent Samantha (voiced by Scarlett Johansson, who won the Best Actress award at the Rome Film Festival). As Theodore becomes more involved with Samantha, the issue of society’s dependence on technology and its impact on personal development is explored to its limits.

“A singular, wryly funny and subtly profound consideration of our relationship to technology.” Variety

Winner of Best Original Screenplay Oscar.
