Speaking from the experience of his rich and varied career in theatre, Sean Holmes, artistic director of London’s Lyric theatre, speaks about his latest project – Secret Theatre.
Holmes’ career has provided him with a strong sense of what British theatre does well, with Holmes himself having contributed to its successes over the years – an achievement recognised by an Olivier award winning production of Sara Kane’s Blasted in 2011.
Holmes’ career has also provided him with an equally strong sense of what British theatre might not be doing so well: areas in which there is room for renovation, transformation and innovation. Whilst the Lyric theatre itself undergoes a more literal renovation, with Secret Theatre Holmes is undertaking a figurative renovation of theatre itself.
