Michael Cimino’s groundbreaking epic, The Deer Hunter looks at the impact of the Vietnam War on the lives of three friends from Pennsylvania.

Hailing from a small industrial town, friends Michael (Robert De Niro), Nick (Christopher Walken) and Steven (John Savage) are steelworkers, working together in tough conditions for little pay. The film then jolts to Vietnam where we find the three taken prisoner and forced to play Russian roulette with their captor.

A film bursting with stand out performances with Meryl Streep’s feature debut, the last performance on screen by John Cazale, Christopher Walken’s Oscar winning breakthrough and Robert De Niro’s brilliant central performance.

“One of the most emotionally shattering films ever made.” Roger Ebert

“One of the most powerful humanist tracts ever committed to celluloid.” ★★★★★ Empire
