Warwick Classics and Ancient History, Institute of Advanced Study and the Global Research Priorities Connecting Cultures Group are proud to present a public lecture by Prof Alastair Blanshard, Paul Eliadis Chair of Classics at the University of Queensland Australia, who is the Institute of Advanced Study Visiting Fellow at Warwick January – February 2016.
Alastair is a well known international scholar who has written on sex and gender in the ancient and modern worlds, the legacy of the Greek hero Heracles, the reception of the ancient world in Film and TV as well as the culture of democratic Athens. In Australia, he has had his own phone-in radio show giving advice from the ancient world for modern day problems. His lecture is entitled ‘The Greeks and Us’ and will be an enthralling tale of why we are still indebted to, and fascinated by, the ancient world.
The lecture is suitable for all ages and does not presume any previous knowledge of the ancient world and will include time for questions. The lecture will be followed by a drinks reception with a chance to meet and talk further with Prof Blanshard and other members of the Warwick Classics department. Tickets (for lecture and drinks reception) are free but limited.
Lecture start: 7pm
Drinks: from 8.15pm
