Spend a day learning the art of the pop-up. Whether you’re a seasoned artist or a complete beginner you’ll come away with the skills to design and make your own eye-catching pop-up cards. Learn to extend and customise three pop-up techniques and leave with three spectacular cards as well as plenty of paper cutting tricks.
This course will cover:
- Introduction to pop-ups and working with paper
- Learn how to do a twisting pop-up
- Try out a 90° pop-up
- Create a Cube pop-up
- Learn a few tricks: customisation and extension
Participants will be supplied with all the necessary equipment for this workshop.
Helen Friel is a Paper Engineer based in London. Since graduating from Central Saint Martins in 2009 she has been creating work in paper for both editorial and advertising clients. With illustrator Joe Wilson she created the world’s first pop-up cocktail menu for the Savoy Hotel. From her studio in South London, she has produced work for clients including Vogue, Vanity Fair, TIME, Harrods and The Telegraph.
Helen also works in moving image and her animation Revolution is the winner of a PDN Photo Annual Award as well as an official selection for the Fantoche International Animation Film Festival, Melbourne International Animation Festival, New Zealand International Animation Festival and the London International Animation Festival.
