Halley (Vinaite) and her 6-year-old daughter Moonee (Prince) live in a cheap Florida motel managed by Bobby (Dafoe), a man whose stern exterior hides a deep reservoir of kindness and compassion. Despite her harsh surroundings, the gifted and jovial Moonee has no trouble making each day a celebration of life. Whilst her endless afternoons overflow with mischief and grand adventure, her mother is forced to explore increasingly dangerous options as a way to keep them both alive in a heart-breaking juxtaposition of childhood innocence and adult realities.
