Needing work during the Blitz, young copywriter Catrin (Arterton) is employed by the Ministry of Information’s Film Division to write female dialogue (“the slop”) for propaganda pictures. Catching the eye of producer Buckley (Clafin), she is hired to write for a morale-boosting film about the heroics of twin sisters during the Battle of Dunkirk, featuring pompous actor Ambrose Hilliard (Nighy).

Based on Lissa Evans’s novel, Their Finest Hour and a Half, this is a charming, spirited drama exploring women’s changing roles during World War II.
