Funny Cow charts the rise to stardom of a female comedienne (Peake) through the 1970s and 1980s in the North of England. Facing struggles in her personal life, including from her abusive husband, Funny Cow looks to kick off a career drawing laughs in the difficult world of working men’s clubs. As she struggles to crack the male-heavy comedy scene she finds a trustworthy mentor in Lenny (Armstrong) and the chance of new love with Angus (Considine).
