Following the death of her parents from AIDS, at a time when ignorance about the illness was rife, 6-year-old Frida (Artigas) is sent to the Catalan countryside to live with her mother’s brother, Esteve (Verdaguer). Striking a careful balance between narrative and atmosphere, this is a vivid autobiographical debut from writer-director Carla Simón.
“Movingly understated and beautifully acted.” New York Times
