Welcome to the last Polish-English wedding before the borders close!
Wesele/ Wedding is an immersive one woman comedy show, where you, the audience, play the role of the wedding guests led by a charismatic Mistress of Ceremonies. There’s vodka to get you in the mood for wedding games, disco polo singalongs and stories of love across borders.
Inspired by Wyspianski’s 1901 play, Wesele holds up a mirror to the contemporary British society. It interrogates the role of traditional values, challenges gender and national stereotypes in both Polish and British culture. Wesele invites a reflection on whether popular culture or maybe the international language of Esperanto can bring us together.
Featured on BBC Radio London and in Vice’s article There are a million Poles in the UK – but none on British TV, Przymierska expresses voices of the generation of post EU-accession migrants from (Central) East European countries, otherwise absent from the mainstream theatre and TV.
“A fresh angle on the popular topic of Brexit and a charismatic performance from Margot Przymierska” A Younger Theatre
“A comic stip-style guide to Polishness in all its glory told with the poignancy of an old folktale peppered with a bunch socio-geographical trivia facts” Tydzień Polski
Please note: This is a participatory show, where the audience will be standing, moving around and sitting on the cushions on the floor at various times. If you have access requirements – there will be some chairs available but if you are able to stand we encourage full participation.
Wesele / Wedding was developed with support from the Arts Council Europe, UCL Grand Challenge and Polish Cultural Institute.
