Palestine’s Oscar entry for Best International Feature, Annemarie Jacir’s essential drama explores the events leading up to the Arab Revolt of 1936.
In 1936, as Palestinian villages buck against British colonial rule, Yusuf moves between Jerusalem and his rural home, amidst escalating unrest and a pivotal moment for the British Empire. Chronicling the lives of local farmers, revolutionaries and business owners, Jacir’s searing film is a gripping account of a critical moment in Palestinian history, performed by a stellar ensemble cast that includes Succession’s Hiam Abbass, Jeremy Irons and Saleh Bakri.
