Celebrate the 40th anniversary of Akira Kurosawa’s Oscar and BAFTA award-winning Ran, his astonishing, colour-soaked interpretation of King Lear as jidaigeki epic.

Borrowing from Japanese legend as well as Shakespearean tragedy, Ran stars Tatsuya Nakadai as the arrogant Great Lord Hidetora Ichimonji, who at 70 abdicates and divides his domain amongst his three sons with catastrophic results. The most expensive Japanese film ever produced on its original 1985 release, Kurosawa’s (Seven Samurai, Rashômon) spectacularly beautiful work is the product of a breathtaking artistic vision.
