Formed in 1917, Grimethorpe Colliery Band is a British institution.
The band’s contest successes include 16 Brass In Concert Championship titles, 11 times Yorkshire Regional Champions, two English Nationals victories, four British Opens and four times National Champion Brass Band of Great Britain.
Noted concert performances include those at the World Cup, BAFTAs, BBC Proms, Eurovision and 2012 Olympic Opening Ceremony, together with a wealth of national and international television / radio appearances and professional recordings. The band has two gold discs, as well as a BAFTA nomination for the global hit movie Brassed Off.
The Royal Albert Hall, Symphony Hall, Barbican, Westminster Abbey, European Parliament, Sydney Opera House and more, have all played host to Grimethorpe. With tours to Australia, Hong Kong, Japan, New Zealand, and concerts and festival appearances throughout Europe, the band’s performance reputation remains unsurpassed.
In 2024 along with delivering a series of typical ‘Grimethorpe’ concerts to sellout theatres nationally, the band was honoured to be asked to perform with Coldplay as part of the headline set at the Glastonbury Festival appearing in front of 125,000 people live and to a TV audience in excess of 25M.
Whilst continuing to delight audiences across the globe, Grimethorpe invest in its local community in Grimethorpe, Barnsley and South Yorkshire, particularly through its youth initiatives and community performances locally and on a national scale.
