Creative Socials are our Wednesday afternoon chill out and make sessions!
With a focus on creativity and wellbeing, our free weekly artist and student-led workshops allow you to immerse yourself in a creative process, meet new people, and take some time for yourself to unwind. Experience photography, paper weaving, beading, animation, costume design and natural dyeing and more. Drop in every Wednesday afternoon and learn a new creative skill!

6 May: Paper Weaving with Nilupa Yasmin
Learn the relaxing art of paper weaving in this hands-on workshop. Using colourful patterned paper strips, you’ll create your own woven design while learning the classic over-under technique. Leave with a unique handmade piece to take home.
Nilupa is an award winning British Bangladeshi artist and educator known for her innovative work that blends photography, weaving, and community engagement, exploring themes of culture, identity, and gender.
13 May: Phytograms with Tom Godwin
Step back in time to the beginnings of photography and unlock the hidden chemistry of nature! In this tactile, drop in workshop you will create internal portraits of plants and flowers, no camera required just plants, light and a little bit of alchemy.
Tom is a Coventry based visual artist who focuses on using experimental photography and videography to create surreal, visually striking views of the future that are open to interpretation from the viewer.
20 May: Animation with Josh Leach
Join animator, Josh Leach, in this fast and responsive workshop where you will create a character through illustration or with play-dough and see it brought to life before your eyes with the magic of animation. This is a fun and interactive workshop where participants will inspire each other to create a weird and wonderful community of animated characters.
Josh is a creative powerhouse: film-maker, animator, songwriter, producer, author and founder of ‘The ADHD Survival Kit’.
27 May: Natural Dye Techniques with Helen Hughes
Join previous Head of Costume Painting & Dyeing at the Royal Shakespeare Company, Helen Hughes, in this natural dyes workshop that explores how to create dyes for costumes with the creative use of plants and vegetables. Using plants such as indigo and woad (for blues), red-veined sorrel and madder (for reds) and coreopsis, cota tinctoria, greenweed, yarrow, weld and feverfew (for yellows and oranges) Helen will explore the ways that natural dyes can be used in creating costumes for stage or everyday clothing.
Helen has established two dye gardens, growing & processing plants to dye & print textiles. She is a freelance Textile Artist who uses natural dyes & pigments both for the theatre & in her own artistic practice.
3 June: Beading with Rumbi Savanhu
Inspired by Zimbabwean geometric beading, learn how to create your own colourful bracelets, necklaces and original designs with artist Rumbi Savanhu.
Rumbi is an illustrator based in Birmingham, UK and spends most of her time drawing people, listening to music and researching her projects. She loves working with bright and bold colours and has a very distinctive style.
10 June: Build Your Own Camera Obscura with Tom Godwin
Ever wondered how a camera actually sees the world? Strip away the digital screen and go back to the very foundations of optics. Join us to construct and decorate your own portable Camera Obscura out of recycled materials.
