“You’ve made a career out of bodies.” The new film from David Cronenberg is a sly, playful reckoning with grief.

Techno-entrepreneur Karsh (Vincent Cassel) has created a software that allows the bereaved to witness the decay of their loved ones after death. As he reels from the loss of his wife (Diane Kruger), vandals attacking graves using his “shroud” technology begin to put his enterprise at risk, leading him to uncover a potentially vast conspiracy. Full of Cronenberg’s customary blend of malevolence and wit, The Shrouds is a thought-provoking look at the real and the digital, the mortal and the infinite.
