Education at Warwick Arts Centre

Pathways project

The 'Pathways' project

Many remarkable events take place at Warwick Arts Centre with professional artists of the highest quality from all over the world. But there is one kind of event that, for me, is the most moving, uplifting and satisfying of all – when the Butterworth Hall is full of children making music or singing or dancing after many months of extremely hard work with professional artists in their schools.

We stage such events regularly as part of our education work – an element of our overall programme that has been a key part of the life of Warwick Arts Centre for over 15 years now. On average, in any one academic year, we will make around 20,000 contacts with students in schools and colleges in the region.

The range and focus of our work with children and young people is very large – from a single, two hour film animation workshop, to a two week dance project for boys, to a season-long theatre-devising scheme, to a three year rolling programme of in-school work with professional artists covering a number of artforms.

Whatever the length or focus of activities, they all have common aims – to stimulate children’s creativity, to spark their imaginations and to broaden their horizons.

Warwick Arts Centre will always be ambitious for the children it works with. We want them to be challenged and stretched and we want them to reach the end of their work with a smile on their face that comes from having pride in their own achievements.
