5 Cinema Highlights for August 2024
The Summer holidays are upon us, and the sun has come out. Well, we have 5 hot new films to bring you from our August line-up. From the moving to the disturbing, creatures from the alarming to the charming.
Sing Sing
In this moving true story about the transformative power of theatre and art, we follow Divine G (Colman Domingo) imprisoned at Sing Sing for a crime he didn’t commit, find purpose in a theatre group alongside other incarcerated men.
Sing Sing (from Fri 30 Aug) is a vulnerable film in a setting where vulnerability is often preyed upon. With most of the actors former inmates themselves, this brings an even more genuine and authentic feeling to the film.
Alien: Romulus
Alien: Romulus (from Fri 16 Aug) takes the franchise back to its dark, minimalistic, horror roots.
From Writer and Director Fede Alvarez (Evil Dead) a group of young space colonisers come face to face with the most terrifying life form in the universe.
Longlegs
In Osgood Perkins’ eerie, atmospheric, chilling horror budding FBI agent Lee Harker (Maika Monroe) must decipher the enigma that is Longlegs (from Fri 9 Aug).
Nicolas Cage brings the titular character to life in his most nightmarish performance to date.
My Neighbour Totoro
My Neighbour Totoro (from Fri 16 Aug) is a heartwarming, humorous and emotional masterpiece about family, love and imagination.
An entrancing view of the natural world filled with a child’s sense of wonder and delight.
Family Films
This month we are bringing you two films which are fun for the whole family.
Starting with Inside Out 2 (from Sat 3 – Wed 14 Aug) Pixar's sequel to Oscar-winning smash Inside Out (Best Animated Feature) is every bit as gloriously funny and touching as the original.
Next up is Despicable Me 4 (from Sat 17 Aug - Sun 1 Sept) Gru (Steve Carell) faces a new nemesis in Maxime Le Mal (Will Ferrell) and the family is forced to go on the run.
