Friday 29 November

Now the weather has turned decidedly wintry, we’re looking ahead to an enticing line-up of cinema guaranteed to warm the hearts of even the chilliest film fans. From festival favourites to family adventures there’s something for everyone to enjoy.

All eyes will be on a festive battle of the musical blockbusters this December – we're so excited we’re not even sure if we’ve got the portmanteau ready, Moicked 2?  But with so much on offer let’s start by first looking at some of our favourite indie titles coming to your local cinema.

Queer

Luca Guadagnino (Challengers, Call Me By Your Name) presents another sumptuous cinematic offering with career-best work from Daniel Craig in the starring role. Be transported to 1940s Mexico City and revel in its nightlife and colourful characters as US expat William Lee (Craig) becomes infatuated with an elusive younger man.

All We Imagine As Light

Fresh from the festival circuit and winning the Grand Prix at Cannes, this beautiful Mumbai-based story explores the lives of 3 connected women. Their stories, challenges and joys intertwine as we see the unspoken layers of yearning that weave through life in a bustling nocturnal city. Soulful and melancholic, the magical film has lush cinematography and a swooning jazz piano score.

Conclave

Based on the best-selling novel by Robert Harris, Conclave follows the election of a new Pope and screened to delighted audiences at the recent BFI London Film Festival. With a top-tier cast led by the always excellent Ralph Fiennes, expect political intrigue and thrilling twists and turns from the director of All Quiet On The Western Front.

Small Things Like These

You have another chance to catch Oscar winner Cillian Murphy (Oppenheimer) delivering an outstanding performance in this piercing adaptation of Claire Keegan’s best-seller set in 80s Ireland. In the months leading up to Christmas, coalman Bill Furlong (Murphy) discovers startling secrets kept by the local convent.

Who will be the Xmas no 1?

Musical fans of all stripes are spoilt for choice with 2 big screen heavy hitters this month. Wicked is already looking to be a box office smash leaving its competitors green with envy. Fancy another tune-filled delight? Then Moana 2 is just the thing– you’re welcome! Its soaring songs and beautiful visuals make it perfect for all the family.
