Our Cinema and Screen Producer's December Highlights

Posted
Monday 28 November

There is still plenty to see as we make our way towards the holiday season, from hot new releases to timeless classics. Here are five highlights from our December programme.

We are delighted to welcome back the French Film Festival. This year, we are showcasing five films from their programme including Jane by Charlotte, Charlotte Gainsbourg’s acclaimed documentary about her mother Jane Birkin; Rodeo, Lola Quivoron’s debut feature and winner of Un Certain Regard Coup de Coeur award at Cannes this year; Feminist Riposte, a documentary featuring a new generation of women’s rights activists working tirelessly in France; Close, Lukas Dhont’s beautiful and moving new film about two 13-year-old friends; and Incredible But True, Quentin Dupieux’s latest sci-fi comedy about a couple who find something unexpected and life-changing in the basement of their new home.

Winner of the Grand Jury Prize at Sundance earlier this year, we are excited to finally welcome Nikyatu Jusu’s Nanny to our screens. Following a young Senegalese woman in New York as she is haunted by violent visions, Nanny is a supernatural thriller that explores the themes of identity, family, heritage and class, and shines a light on Nikyatu Jusu as a bold emerging talent to follow closely.

Agnieszka Smoczynska’s new film The Silent Twins is a riveting – if at times difficult – portrait of June and Jennifer Gibbons, two real-life identical twins who became known as the ‘silent twins’ as they refused to communicate with the outside world. The film gives us insight into the women’s lives, from childhood to adulthood, and into their creative writing and process. With fantastic performances from Letitia Wright and Tamara Lawrence, The Silent Twins is a beguiling exploration of an astounding real-life story.

Jacques Becker’s Casque D’Or returns to the big screen in a stunning new restoration, 70 years after its original release. A tragic story of love, crime and treachery, the film stars Simone Signoret and Serge Reggiani, both delivering unforgettable performances in a film that is no short of a masterpiece.

Finally, as we make our way towards the holidays, we have a selection of Christmas films to please the whole family this month including Home Alone, Die Hard, The Polar Express, The Muppet Christmas Carol, Elf and It’s a Wonderful Life.

Hope to see you there,

Meli
