Two new plays on sale this summer

Posted
Wednesday 31 March 2021

To celebrate the opening of Coventry’s year as U.K. City of Culture, this summer Warwick Arts Centre will be presenting two pieces of theatre to kick start a year of big moments for the city.

Although the hand-picked events we're staging are fully formed, the building won’t yet be fully open. We’ll have social distancing measures in place and a warm welcome from our staff who are looking forward to seeing our visitors again.

The Language of Kindness

A new stage adaptation based on Christie Watson’s best-selling memoir
Adapted and directed by: Sasha Milavic Davies and James Yeatman
Design: Zoë Hurwitz. Sound: Gareth Fry. Video: Hayley Egan

20 – 23 May

Based on Christie Watson’s 20 years of experience working as a nurse for the NHS, this ensemble-style piece of dance-theatre and real stories will be a celebration, a joy-filled, emotion-laden homage to nurses and frontline health-workers.

The Petticoat Council

By Frankie Meredith

15 – 17 June

This is the story of the ‘Petticoat Council’, formed by a group of women from Bishop’s Itchington in rural Warwickshire. They became the first female majority council in Britain, breaking down barriers to transform their community. In the wake of the devastation of the Second World War, and with Britain and its people still struggling with austerity, these women brought about hope and change on a local level whilst inspiring a nation.

Warwickshire writer Frankie Meredith brings this story to life for today’s audiences with storytelling, dance and music, fusing songs from the charts with timeless folk arrangements and dancehall classics.

We're coming back!

In October 2021 we will be re-opening with our brand new building, 3 beautiful new cinemas, and a new gallery and restaurant. Whilst we can’t share all the details just yet, we can promise you this: Warwick Arts Centre is coming back.
