Living on a farm in the Italian province of Bergamo, a group of peasant families scratch out a living. Advised that his son should be educated, Batisti (Ornaghi) sacrifices the help in the fields and sends him to school six miles away in a pair of wooden clogs.
However, when the shoes are damaged, he is forced to cut down a landowner’s tree to make a new pair, putting his family’s future at risk in the process. Featuring a cast of non-actors, The Tree of Wooden Clogs won the Palme d’Or in 1978.
