East is East

Set in 1970s Salford, East is East is a hilarious, fast-paced comedy of mixed-race manners. 

Om Puri is George Khan, proud Pakistani and chip shop owner, who rules his family with a rod of iron. He thinks he's raising his seven children to be respectable Pakistanis. But as much as George's English wife Ella (Linda Bassett) tries to honour her husband, she also wants her children to be happy – and they, caught between bell-bottoms and arranged marriages, simply want to be citizens of the modern world.
