Welcome to the first concert in our 2022-2023 Orchestral Series, and we are starting with a bang.

Aurora Orchestra, led by Principal Conductor Nicholas Collon, is the first ensemble in the world to present whole symphonies entirely from memory. The resulting electrifying performances have become the group's signature, and one of the most talked-about innovations in classical music over the past decade.

Tonight, Aurora Orchestra presents three pieces with a distinctly French flavour. Beginning with Three Studies..., Thomas Adès pays homage to the work of composer François Couperin, skilfully representing his harpsichord music in a rich orchestral setting. Following Maurice Ravel’s entertaining Piano Concerto in G, Aurora concludes with Berlioz’s dramatic Symphonie Fantastique, exploring episodes from the life of an artist.

The soloist is multi-award-winning musician, curator, and composer Tom Poster, whose American Quintets (with Kaleidoscope Chamber Collective) and Lockdown-inspired The Jukebox Album (with his wife, violinist Elena Urioste) were both shortlisted for the BBC Music Magazine Awards 2022.
