Step into an evening at the local pub like no other. Every night the same landlady, the same regulars, the same shots, until suddenly a stranger gets blown in from the cold.

Restore your weary soul with Olivier Award Nominated Lay Down Your Burdens. With extraordinary physical performance, brave testimonials, music from a live Ceilidh band and riotous pub games, this dance theatre show draws together those who have been estranged or never even dreamed they were connected. Set in a pub on-stage, you're invited to join in with the proceedings and participate in the fun, as much as you like.

Choreographer Rhiannon Faith makes socially conscious work that raises awareness and lobbies for change. Developed from real-life experiences of the company and conversations with communities, this radically tender dance theatre show invites you to explore the beauty of humanity and the eternal need for community and compassion.

Co-Commissioned by the Barbican, London and Harlow Playhouse.

Important Information:

  • The show is set inside a pub which is built on stage. Some of the audience will be seated 'in the pub' on pub stools on stage, these seats will be more involved in the action and the audience participation.
  • Access to this seating will be via specially made stairs on either side of the auditorium.
  • Anyone with mobility needs will be escorted via back of house at beginning, interval, and end.
  • There are a limited number of seats available and you need to click on the red 'On Stage Seating' area to access those seats and use the ticket type of On Stage Seating.
  • At points during the performance, audience members will be invited to participate. This is completely voluntary, and we ask you to only share what you're comfortable with. These words will be recorded as part of the show and these recordings may be used in the future for Rhiannon Faith Company’s work. If you would like to know more please speak to a member of staff

Workshop

Join us for a 90-minute workshop the night before you come to the show, providing a special opportunity to enter the world of Lay Down Your Burdens.

Meet the characters and dive deep into the show’s themes of community, connection and the burdens we all carry. Led by dancers and musicians from the show, we will do a bit of creative writing, listen to some beautiful live music, and maybe do some moving; exploring personal experiences of the things that are hard to carry, and how we care for one another.

The workshop is a gentle invitation to come together and lighten the load by carrying it collectively.

This workshop is open to all ticket holders, and no prior experience is required.
