Charles Burnett’s groundbreaking film is one of the crown jewels of the L.A. Rebellion movement.

Acclaimed from its release in 1978, Charles Burnett’s Killer of Sheep was made on a shoestring budget while he was still a film student at UCLA. Inspired by Italian neorealism, it brings a previously undocumented America to the screen: everyday lives amongst the Black community in East Los Angeles. Hazy and dreamlike, combining deep nuance with lyrical simplicity, Killer of Sheep is an inspired masterpiece of cinema.
