Coming up to exam time, feeling stressed/overwhelmed? Come and relax in a friendly and supportive space where we look at what writers Rupi Kaur, Bell Hooks, Audre Lourde, Ocean Vuong and Joy Harjo say about how they use poetry as a self-care practice. Creating space is an act of love. Come and make room for yourself to create. Refreshments provided.

01/05/2024 - Jess Timmis and Leah Gower: Body as Verb: Mark-Making, Movement and Meditation

Using Nicole Bachmann’s work 'There are tides in the body' and its themes of belonging, language and the body as stimulus, in this session join artist Leah Gowing who will guide a somatic exploration of the body through meditation and guided intuitive movement to playfully journey through the energy centres of the body. Using traditional eastern and indigenous teachings of the chakra system and the medicine wheel, participants will spend time in collective self-care, self-expression and self-discovery. Then, artist Jess Timmis will facilitate mark-making using drawing, collage and text. Participants will respond and chart their experiences in the first half of the session visually in a collective space.

08/05/2024 - Emily Hett: Play With Clay 1

15/05/2024 - Taiba Akhtar: Printmaking - Construct and Compose

Join Taiba for a monotype, textual and sculptural workshop taking inspiration from Bologna - based, Rwandan artist Francis Offman. His abstract paintings are inspired by his own personal experiences utilising tales of friendship, travel and journey.

Let’s deconstruct our own narratives writing in reverse and making boats.

Taiba Akhtar is a Birmingham based Artist and Printmaker temporarily covering as Senior Technician within the Birmingham School of Art. Her evolving interest in language and communication binds the spoken, written and the read. She is particularly intrigued within the intaglio field, surprised by the wonders of etching and the magical nature of engraving. Her visuals stem from time and the passing of time, entangling thoughts, feelings and actions.

22/05/2024 - Come and explore African Crafts in collaboration with Internationalisation.

More detail to come soon.

29/05/2024 - Youth Leadership Collective

Guided by artist, Navkiran, participants will look at newspapers and magazines and blackout words and texts in order to create your own choices and narratives with poetry. Come and scribble, doodle and draw over your poetic pieces. Refreshments provided.

12/06/2024 - Emily Hett: Play With Clay 2

Participants will continue exploring different hand building techniques, including coil building, using air drying clay. 19/06/2024 - Music Centre

Join WAC’s Music Centre as they support Warwick Students to perform in the Foyer in this Music Centre Festival takeover!

26/06/2024 - Taiba Akhtar: Printmaking - Reimagine

Join Taiba for a collaborative foam printing workshop taking inspiration from Nicole Bachman, a Swiss artist enabling us to rethink our bodies, minds and environments. Through her choreographed performances backdrops of seaside and urban nature refer to the journey of migrants.

Let’s listen to varying sounds of the seaside, different levels of waterfall cutting and mark making foam silhouettes. Incorporating repeats, a play upon inking utilising ghost versions adding to the sense of movement and rhythm collectively responding and collating.
