6 Reasons to see The Gruffalo with us this December
This Christmas' big family show is Tall Stories' brilliant adaptation of The Gruffalo. A magical, musical adaptation of the famed picture book - which finds a mouse heading into the deep dark wood - it's a pure delight for audiences aged 3+ (and their grown-ups).
Here's half-a-dozen reasons why you should see The Gruffalo with us …
1. It's Christmas!
The Gruffalo is roar-some family fun for children aged three and upwards. Filled with charming much-loved characters and fun songs and laughs, we reckon it makes for a perfect family festive treat.
2. It's a much-loved literary classic
Selling well over 13.5 million copies worldwide, and translated into 107 languages and dialects, The Gruffalo is a global publishing phenomena and a genuine classic, winning numerous major awards. The book’s even spawned several sequels and spin-offs, including The Gruffalo's Child and 'cookbook' Gruffalo Crumble and Other Recipes, as well as an animated film.
3. It was created by the best
Writer Julia Donaldson and illustrator by Axel Scheffler are one of the most successful creative teams in publishing. Among their many other successful collaborations are The Smeds and Smoos, Monkey Puzzle, Tales Of Acorn Wood, Room On The Broom, and The Smartest Giant In Town. They are the best storytellers around.
4. The story has been entertaining young readers for 25 years (almost)
Hard to believe, but the book was first published way back in 1999! To mark the momentous occasion, a special 25th Anniversary Edition will be published next year featuring the original story along with early sketches and a special birthday song. Other variations will also be published, including a new pop-up book and sticker book.
5. Tall Stories know what they are doing!
Founded in 1997, Tall Stories' production of The Gruffalo debuted in 2001. The company have gone on to adapt Julia and Axel's The Smeds And The Smoos and The Snail And The Whale for the stage, as well many other children's favourites, including Mr Benn.
6. The live show is a massive hit
Tall Stories' The Gruffalo has played sell-out runs at the Edinburgh Fringe, toured the UK multiple times, and played to packed houses in London’s West End. It's also toured to over a dozen countries, including the Australia and the US, where it also played Broadway. Everyone loves it! Audiences young and old adore the show. And so do the critics ...
