Things to do in Coventry this July
July at Warwick Arts Centre brings us some new blockbuster movies and the chance to revisit some classics on the big screen. And outside the cinema, we also have some music and comedy to enjoy, so you’ll find plenty to enjoy in Coventry this July.
Epic cinema with The Odyssey
Oscar-winning director Christopher Nolan brings his latest cinematic vision to the big screen this July with his action epic adaptation of Homer’s heroic saga, The Odyssey.
The first feature shot entirely in IMAX, The Odyssey features an all-star cast including Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, Robert Pattinson, Lupita Nyong'o, Zendaya and Charlize Theron.
Follow the journey of Odysseus, King of Ithaca as he returns to his wife and homeland after the Trojan War. Along the way, he is faced with the Gods’ worst creations and temptations.
This is definitely a film designed to be seen on a big screen!
The Odyssey in 35mm
Watch The Odyssey on 35mm film format with special screenings at Warwick Arts Centre. 35mm film delivers clear, high-resolution images that make Nolan’s latest feel bigger, richer and more epic.
35mm film means you are watching the movie projected from film to deliver rich colours and an organic grain texture that has long been considered the gold standard of filmmaking.
Experience ancient Greece in classic 35mm film this July with The Odyssey at Warwick Arts Centre.
Spiderman and Spielberg
More cinema choices in July include another chance to see Tom Holland in action as he swaps his Greek attire from The Odyssey for his more familiar red and blue in Spider-Man: Brand New Day.
The latest entry in the Marvel Cinematic Universe sees Peter Parker alone and fighting crime in New York City as he adapts to life being Spider-Man full-time, but the added pressure brings about some surprising physical evolutions.
July also brings a celebration of influential filmmaker Steven Spielberg, as we revisit some of his classic movies during our Spielberg Summer Season, starting with two absolute classic science fiction and fantasy adventures.
Go on an adventure with Elliott, a boy on Earth that makes friends with an alien in E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial. Or find out that we are not alone with the discovery of a UFO in Close Encounters of the Third Kind.
Two great films for movie fans to revisit, or a new generation of children to discover with their families.
Comedy and music
American comedian Michelle Wolf brings her unmissable stand-up show Michelle Wolf: Best Job in the World to the Arts Centre stage.
For a musical night out, join The Bad Plus for their farewell tour and celebrate one of the most influential and adventurous ensembles in modern jazz. Or join Down for the Count Swing Orchestra for an evening Celebrating Nat King Cole with a joyful celebration of instrumentalists, vocalists and a 30 piece orchestra.
