Celebrating Westwood Choir
The start of this school year has seen an exciting new start for the Westwood Academy Choir now with on average 50 students coming along to our weekly Thursday morning rehearsals.
The choir is open to anyone in school and we currently have members from year 7 right up to year 13, so everybody is welcome!
The choir has worked really hard over the last year, learning a huge range of music and showcasing it both within school and the Arts Centre.
In the summer we performed at the school's awards evening and also supported the Music Centre Big sing with over 500 Coventry primary school students.
The choir sang in the foyer welcoming the students in and then acted as mentors throughout the Big Sing event.
This year we really have hit the ground running, tripling the amount of students involved and already making an amazing sound. So far we have learnt an upbeat Gospel piece and a calm yet cool bit of Adele.
But, as always in the music world, Christmas started early as we performed in the Music Centre Big Christmas Take Over.
The choir joined all the University of Warwick Music Centre ensembles as we took over the Arts Centre for an afternoon of Christmas music and festivities on Monday 4 December.
It really exciting to have so many students singing each week; it's a space to learn, have fun and make friends and we can’t wait to see how it continues to develop.
