New from Cannes Grand Prix-winner Lukas Dhont (Close, Girl), Coward is a sensual, sensitive study of queer romance and resistance set amid the brutal realities of World War I.
Belgium, 1916: Shy, stolid Pierre (Emmanuel Macchia) fights at the western front. There, led by playful, exuberant Francis (Valentin Campagne), a group of soldiers form a theatrical troupe, often performing in drag, to entertain their comrades and raise morale behind the lines. When Pierre is tasked with helping Francis, their opposing qualities draw them together, and collaboration evolves into something more.
