Creative Socials: COMICS
Free, just drop in!
These sessions are designed for students, but are open to everyone.
Fancy doing something a bit different? Come along to Creative Socials for a chance to switch off, get creative and spend some time with other students.
Join illustrator and workshop facilitator Freyja for a playful comics workshop exploring the stories hidden in everyday life.
Taking inspiration from comic artists and writers including Harvey Pekar and Alison Bechdel, you’ll explore how ordinary moments, routines and experiences can become compelling stories that connect with other people.
You’ll then create your own 12-panel comic on a single page, using pens, pencils and collage materials to tell a story from your everyday life. As you work, you’ll have the chance to share and swap stories with others, discovering the humour, weirdness and meaning in the seemingly mundane.
No previous comics or drawing experience is needed - just bring your everyday stories and see where they take you!
About the artist
Freyja is a freelance illustrator and workshop facilitator specialising in printmaking and satirical commentary. Their work is predominantly analogue and often inspired by their many passions, with a particular love for all things nerdy and comic-related.
Part of Comics Come Alive
Look out for a screening of American Splendour at Warwick Arts Centre as part of the Comics Come Alive series.
