Things to do in Coventry this March

As spring edges closer, March at Warwick Arts Centre brings a fresh surge of energy across cinema, comedy, music and live performance.

Unmissable cinema this March

Elvis sings and tells his story like never before in EPiC: Elvis Presley in Concert, an extraordinary cinematic experience from visionary filmmaker Baz Luhrmann. Built from unseen performance footage uncovered while preparing Elvis (2022), it’s a dazzling testament to the King’s late-period greatness.

Faith and radical belief take centre stage in The Testament of Ann Lee, powered by a transformative Amanda Seyfried, while psychological tension builds in Send Help, starring Rachel McAdams in an unsettling and darkly humorous battle for survival from director Sam Raimi.

History and politics are explored through a child’s eyes in The President’s Cake, while Shakespeare’s tragedy explodes onto the big screen in the filmed Theatre Royal Haymarket production of Othello, starring David Harewood and Toby Jones.

Gangland drama returns with Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man, as Cillian Murphy reprises his role as Tommy Shelby in wartime Birmingham.

Art lovers can experience Exhibition on Screen: Turner & Constable, celebrating Britain’s greatest landscape painters in collaboration with Tate Britain, while James Acaster: Cinemagoers Welcome captures the comic’s infectious energy across three very different audiences. Japanese cinema is also in focus with The Last Blossom and Ura Aka: L’Aventure, both exploring identity, memory and reinvention.

Laugh out loud with live comedy

March is packed with major names and sharp new material. Chloe Petts returns with her most loutish hour yet in Big Naturals, while Alasdair Beckett-King brings his multi-award-winning absurdity in King of Crumbs.

Television favourite Joel Dommett shares tales from fatherhood and fame with Happy Idiot, Andy Zaltzman extends his fully updated Zaltgeist tour, and Sue Perkins reveals the unlikely realities of life in the spotlight in The Eternal Shame of Sue Perkins.

The month continues with stand-up from Pierre Novellie, Ray Bradshaw, Tom Rosenthal and Tom Davis, ensuring spring starts with plenty of laughter.

Music & classical performances

The City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra performs Tchaikovsky’s Piano Concerto No.1 under Kazuki Yamada, a work that has become one of the most famous ever written for piano and orchestra. In Titans, the University of Warwick Symphony Orchestra and Chorus present Mahler’s Symphony No.1, an evocation of nature and a world waking after a long winter.

Meanwhile, Vitamin String Quartet blur the boundaries between classical and pop with spellbinding reinterpretations of artists from Billie Eilish to BTS.

Blues legend Eric Bibb returns with his brand-new album One Mississippi, two members of The Bluetones present special acoustic performances of their classics, and Boyzlife celebrate the iconic hits of Boyzone and Westlife. Weekly Jazz Fridays continue as a free campus highlight.

Theatre, Dance & Beyond

Bach Reimagined combines powerful contemporary dance with live cello in a bold exploration of art, science and discovery.

Creative Socials, Family Sundays and Mini Creatives offer welcoming spaces to explore creativity and wellbeing, while the Spring Makers Market showcases over 25 local independent traders with a focus on sustainability and accessible pricing.

For those drawn to big ideas, Jason Fox shares extraordinary survival stories in Embrace the Chaos, Brian Cox previews his new world tour Emergence, and join us for A Night with Donna Ashworth: When Hope Speaks. The Night Sky Show rounds out the month with a spectacular journey across the cosmos.
